Every year in the Spring, Spectrum Theatre does a performance of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. Eve did over 200 interviews with women from all over the world, from every walk of life, and asked them questions like “If your vagina could talk, what would it say?” and “If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?” A show was created around those interviews. A show that talks about happy vaginas, sad vaginas, angry vaginas and finding your moan.
The most amazing part of this production is that 100% of the proceeds go to charity. Spectrum Theatre gets to pick a charity, any charity, for 90% of the benefits to go to. Then the V-Day campaign has what’s called a Global Fund each year. 10% of the proceeds go toward that. This might seem like a small amount, but when you take into account the thousands of performances of The Vagina Monologues put on each year and take 10% of that, it’s amazing what one show can do.
